Elementary School.and Ken Corson from Wallace Intermediate
School. Ken Corson will be coordinating the PRIDE grants
and Mary Burgents from SUCCESS will coordinate the FAST

and the Carl Arthur Center Collaborative.
Since 1994, NJEA has conducted the PRIDE
in Public Education campaign, a statewide effort to share
public education success and build strong community support
for and involvement in our public schools. As part of this
campaign, NJEA provides grants for projects that bring the
public school out into the community and the community into
the public school. Each year there are hundreds of local
PRIDE grants and this year we are proud to have a generous
“piece of the pie.”
The grant funding makes it possible for
school to host special workshops, community days, and many
other creative activities. Sometimes the funding
supplements activities the school has planned by providing
refreshments, meals to participating families, advertising
funds, workshop materials and promotional items as gifts.
We want the community and our school families to share in
the pride we have for our schools. We will be providing
more detailed information about the projects throughout the
school year.
Petway Elementary School
(Vineland/Cumberland) was proud to host a Family Literacy
Night on Wednesday, Oct. 3. The program was funded through
Vineland Education Association's PRIDE grant. Children's
author Jerry Pallotta presented a program titled, "Read a
Zillion Books" to the Petway Patriots and their families.
Pallotta has written more than 20 nonfiction nature books.
"My goal has always been to write interesting, fact-filled,
fun to read, beautifully illustrated color children's
books," says Pallotta, a Boston native.
The event began with a light dinner followed by Pallota's
presentation. Attendees received a "Proud of Our Public
Schools" book magnet.as a gift.
